As announced on April 2017, the Subclass 457 (Temporary Work Visa) will be abolished after the announcement the Department of Home Affairs then announced a new temporary work visa to be called Temporary Skill Shortage Visa TSS (Subclass 482). On Sunday 18 March 2018, the Department of Home Affairs released the full regulation of the new visa Subclass 482 and the complete abolition of Subclass 457. There are 3 streams under subclass 482 visa, Short-term Stream, Medium – Long term Stream, and Labour Agreement stream.
Three Streams under Subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage Visa:
• Short-Term Stream - Under the Short-term Stream, the stream allows employers to sponsor employees whose occupation falls under the Short-term Skilled Occupation list and allows the employee to stay for a maximum two years. However, the visa can be renewed once and only once for another two years, while the applicant is onshore.
o Note: These application are not eligible for Permanent Visa application
• Medium-Long Term Stream - Medium to Long Term stream, where the employer can sponsor the employee whose occupation is under Medium-Long Term Strategic Skill List (MLTSSL). An applicant can stay up to four years with a chance to reapply for the visa not limited to one renewal and a chance to apply for Permanent Residency.
• Labour Agreement Stream - Labour Agreement Stream is available if/when the employer wishes to sponsor an applicant from overseas and has entered into a Labour Agreement with the Department of Home Affairs. The Labour agreement is an agreement between the Department and the employer without the requirement of the occupation list.
Similar to the subclass 457 visa, the Subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage visa application will still have the same visa application stages. SBS (Standard Business Sponsorship) Nomination Visa Application
