    • Study for up to 4 months on a tourist or student visa
    • Work temporarily to fund your travels
    • Travel freely within Australia

How Long Does it Take to Get Work and
    Holiday 462 Visa Australia?

The standard processing time for a subclass 462 work and holiday visa is between 11 days (for 50 percent of applicants) to 62 days (for 90 percent of applications, given that you provide a complete visa application with all required documents.

However, actual processing times can vary depending on factors like:

    • Seasonal Application Volumes – More applications during peak seasons mean longer processing times.
    • Application Completeness – Incomplete applications often face delays.
    • Using a Migration Agent – Seeking professional help does not necessarily speed up your application but will help make it error-free and decision-ready.

Applicants should not book travel until the visa is officially approved.

Thong and Marlene helped my partner gain permanent residency in Australia. We did the application ourselves but it turned out lots of information we needed to provide was missing. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I extend my work and holiday visa 462?

No, you cannot directly extend the subclass 462 work and holiday visa beyond the maximum 12 months from your first arrival date in Australia.

However, you may be eligible to apply for a second Work and Holiday visa for another year if you:

Entered Australia on your first WHM visa already
Completed at least three months of specified work in regional Australia during your first WH visa

This allows you to have an extended 2-year work and holiday in Australia total if you meet the criteria.

To qualify for a second WH visa, you’ll need evidence showing you did the required 3 months of work in Northern Australia such as pay slips, work references, job descriptions and more. The right migration agent can help ensure you meet the regulations.

So while you can’t directly extend your initial visa, a second work and holiday visa is possible in many cases.

What is the age limit for Australia visa 462?

You must be in the age between 18 to 30 years old (inclusive) to be eligible for this temporary visa.

Should I be outside Australia when applying for this visa?

Yes, you must be outside Australia when applying for this visa online using your ImmiAccount.

What is the difference between subclass 462 and 417 visa?

Both subclasses are part of Australia’s Working Holiday Maker program. The main difference lies in the specific requirements.

For example, subclass 417 working holiday visas do not have education requirements, nor does it require aspiring visa holders to secure a government letter of support (except for US citizens). The 417 visa also doesn’t require applicants to have functional English.

Can I bring my family to Australia on work and holiday visa?

No, you must not be accompanied by family members or dependent children to apply and be successfully granted your first work and holiday visa.

How many first work and holiday visas are granted annually?

Applications for a first WHM visa subclass 462 are capped and limited for each program year (except the United States). Once this limit has been reached, the Australian Government will no longer accept new applications. You will then have to wait the following program year (1 July) to lodge an application.
